So…I’m back for round 2 of the Disney blog. Bryce is in bed for the night, so Mommy has a free second. We’ll see if I can get finished typing this thing!
While we were hanging out in Mickey’s neck of the woods, we hit up all the Disney parks. I love those park hopper passes! You could go to one park in the morning, go back to the hotel and nap, and then go to a different park for the evening. Wish they would have had those when I was little!
First, here’s a little recap of all our time in the Magic Kingdom. Bryce was thrilled to see the big castle…or Prince Charming’s castle as he calls it (forget about that Cinderella chick!). He was excited about trying to pull the sword out of the stone, just like in one of his favorite movies. He tried so hard to get the sword – it was adorable! Bryce’s favorite rides there were the Buzz Lightyear ride, the race cars, and It’s a Small World (much to Heath’s dismay! lol) Heath and I did make a big mistake choosing a ride at Magic Kingdom though. We decided to ride Stitch’s Great Escape…which you would think would be kid-friendly since Stitch is a cartoon character (from Lilo and Stitch). Umm, not so much. For any of you who have ridden the Alien ride at Universal Studios – it was exactly like that! So, basically Stitch escaped into the room and it went pitch black. Then, you could feel breath on your neck, slime from him spitting on you, and the restraints tightening on your shoulders when Stitch “jumped” on you. Bryce screamed bloody murder. It was awful! Needless to say, we’ll never ride that again!
We also hung out at Animal Kingdom. Heath and I had never been there before, so we both enjoyed checking out a new park along with our little man. It was a really cool place! They had this neat safari ride where you could see all the animals and Bryce really liked that. He also loved the Nemo musical show…but Heath lovingly referred to it as “totally gay" (thankfully, out of Bryce's earshot. hehe). They also had a roller coaster called Everest that was lots of fun. Bryce was not tall enough to ride and even if he had been, his Mommy wasn’t crazy enough to let him ride….so Heath and I did a parent swap (gotta love Disney for that!) for the ride and both got to ride it. Another high point from Animal Kingdom was Bryce playing drums with the street band in the African section of the park. He was grooving!
On to the next park…Epcot. From my dim memories of years past, I was pretty sure there wouldn’t be anything there that Bryce would like. But, Heath talked me into going and he was so right! It was lots of fun! Since Bryce is going to be an astronaut for Halloween, he was thrilled with the time travel ride where it seemed like we were in outer space. Several times while we were riding, he would ask me, “When are we going back to Earth?” So cute – he was really convinced that we were up in outer space! Of course, after riding all the rides, we headed to the countries part of Epcot. If you’ve ever visited our house, you’ve probably noticed lots of Asian décor….so it will come as no shock that we spent lots of time in China and Japan! My boys even let me shop a little bit in Japan while they perused the Japanese candy shop. They wound up buying some yummy Litchi gummies (some odd Asian fruit, but they were good!). Another awesome part of Epcot was that the character meeting spots weren’t nearly as crowded as the other parks – so we were able to meet lots of characters, get great pictures, and have them sign Bryce’s autograph book (which he is sooo proud of!). I’m so glad Heath convinced me to go to Epcot, because it was so much fun! On our last night in Orlando, we even headed back to Epcot to watch their fireworks/laser show and to eat in China (best meal we had the whole trip!!).
Last, but not least, we headed to Hollywood Studios. I didn’t realize that they had renamed the MGM park…but I guess they did. Lol. The park held “THE RIDE.” Oh my, Bryce’s favorite ride was definitely at Hollywood Studios. It’s a new Toy Story 3D ride where you can virtually shoot things like rings, water, and other stuff at targets throughout the ride (but so much better than the laser shooting one at Magic Kingdom!). Then, at the end it tells you what your score is and what animal it correlates with. Bryce thought it was the coolest thing ever that both times we rode, his score correlated to an armadillo. He ran around all day telling us that he was an armadillo! Of course, Bryce’s favorite ride was also the most crowded out of ALL the rides at every park (the wait time reached 110 minutes at some points during the day!). We were able to get a Fast Pass to ride it the first time, but the Fast Passes ran out by noon for the rest of the day. So….we waited in line late that night to ride it again. It was worth it though, because my baby loved every second of it! At Hollywood Studios, Heath and I also got to ride a couple of adult rides. Bryce was tall enough to ride Tower of Terror (the 13 story drop), but thankfully his parents weren’t stupid enough to consider letting him ride it! It was definitely my favorite ride though – especially since I rode it at night. It was awesome!
Hmm…let’s see, am I leaving anything out? Oh yeah, Chef Mickey’s. We decided to go to one of the character dining restaurants. At Chef Mickey’s, all of the characters come around to your table while you are eating. It’s a great idea, because then every child gets special visits from each character and some individual attention. Bryce was so excited the whole time that he could barely eat. His favorite visitors were Minnie and Goofy. As he’s told many of you, Minnie gave him “lots of kisses.” It was so cute! He blushed and covered his little mouth with a shy grin on his face.
So, that pretty much covers our Disney experience. It was such a great trip! The weather was wonderful for the most part – it only rained part of one evening and the temperatures were comfortable (except the one random day it was in the 90s). We were definitely blessed with a wonderful family get-away. Well, that's all folks. My hands are tired of typing and I want to go to bed! If any of you want more details, ask Bryce :) Or, if you want to hear about Heath's meltdown on me in the Orlando airport when he told me that I was going to be detained by security in a back room somewhere (hehe, yep he really said that)...just ask.
